Archimandrite Rev. Fr. Barouyr Shernezian

Archimandrite Fr. Barouyr Shernezian was born in Beirut, Lebanon. He joined the Armenian Theological Seminary as a student in 2004, graduated in 2012. That same year, he was ordained as a celibate priest of the brotherhood of the Holy See of Cilicia.

 

From 2012 to 2015 , he served as Director of Antelias’s “Cilicia” Museum and Spiritual Director of the Youth Department of the Catholicosate of Cilicia.

 

Fr. Barouyr started his theological studies at Near East School of Theology in Beirut when, in 2016, he was appointed Parish Priest of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church in San Francisco, California. Concurrently, he taught Christian Education at the Krouzian-Zakarian-Vasbouragan Armenian School.

 

He continued his studies at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, completing his Master’s Degree through the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute in 2019.

 

While serving in San Francisco, Fr. Barouyr actively participated in the San Francisco Interfaith Council and Eastern Churches of the Bay Area.

 

In 2019, Fr. Shernezian returned to Lebanon as the Director of the “Cilicia” Museum, supervising and organizing all the tasks of the museum, while serving as the Spiritual Director of the Armenian Church University Students’ Association.

 

In 2020, Fr. Barouyr was appointed Dean of the Armenian Theological Seminary. He also taught Religious Studies in different Armenian Schools in Lebanon.

 

In addition to being the Dean, Fr. Shernezian also teaches Biblical Studies and Armenian Church History at the seminary.

 

Fr. Barouyr continues his studies at Fordham University in New York, pursuing a Doctor of Ministry.

On November 24, 2024, Fr. Barouyr received the Archimandrite rank of priesthood in St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Cathedral, Antelias.
